In the DRC, Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) has been working since 2008 to support local communities, first in mapping their land and then in reflecting on their management methods. Taking advantage of the favorable context created by the new Congolese legislation, RFN wishes to promote community forestry. The objective of the service is to design and implement a methodology to assess the environmental situation, socio-economic conditions and local governance modes in 5 CFCLs in Walikale (North Kivu) and Penzele. In particular, this baseline study seeks to estimate the state of the forest resources, its current uses and how this influences the standard of living of the managing populations. The methodology should also make it possible to identify current dynamics and monitor changes between 2019 (“year 0”) and 2024 (“year 5”).
